Turkey, officially the Republic of Turkey, is a transcontinental state whose territory extends for the most part to the Anatolian peninsula, in western Asia, and also includes a European part: the extreme eastern part of Thrace, also known as European Turkey. It is surrounded to the south by the Levant Sea, to the west by the Aegean Sea and to the north by the Black Sea; the Sea of Marmara separates European Turkey from the Anatolian peninsula. It borders Greece and Bulgaria to the north-west, Georgia to the north-east, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the east, Iraq to the south-east and Syria to the south. Turkey is the westernmost tip of the Asian continent.
