Guido Crosetto was born in Cuneo on 19 September 1963 into a family of Piedmontese industrialists. He began his political activity among the young people of the Christian Democrats and then, from the year 2000, in Forza Italia. He was one of the founders of Fratelli d‘Italia. He currently holds the position of Minister of Defense in the Meloni government.
After the death of his father he joined the youth section of the Christian Democrats. Here he held the position of regional secretary of the youth movement and national head of formation, from 1984 to 1990. At the age of 25 he became economic adviser to the then Prime Minister Giovanni Goria.
From 1990 to 2004 he was mayor of Marene, a municipality in the province of Cuneo. In 1999 he was a candidate for the presidency of the province of Cuneo, as an independent, from Forza Italia.
On this occasion he made it to the runoff against the outgoing president, candidate of the center–left, the former Christian Democrat Giovanni Quaglia, but was not elected.
He held the position of provincial councilor of Cuneo from 1999 to 2009, holding the position of group leader of Forza Italia, a party he had joined in the year 2000. He also chaired the conference of mayors of the Savigliano–Saluzzo–Fossano ASL from 1993 to 1997.
In September 2014 Guido Crosetto left political commitment and was appointed president of the Federation of Italian Companies for Aerospace, Defense and Security of Confindustria, also obtaining an important role in Leonardo.
